The largest of the pinnipeds, male southern elephant seals can reach 20 feet and top the scales at more than 8,000 pounds!  These hefty boys can also dive to more than 5,000 feet in the frigid waters they inhabit, and spend 90 minutes hunting beneath the surface. When you've got to endure the chilly depths for that long, it helps to be as "big boned" as possible!
